1989 and has been living in the Tri-state area ever
since. Torres’s initial
experimentation with painting was inspired
by kitsch TV shows about painting
and drawing. He broke away from art when they began playing continuous re- runs of the same shows
and he failed miserably at replicating the work
instructed.
In 1997
(W.C.C.) as a Civil Engineer due to his fascination
with math and science.
Refusing to conform to the constrained
curriculum of engineering, Torres
switched into the Visual Arts program
at W.C.C. three semesters later. He went
on to become the vice-president
of the school’s Hispanic-American club and
Captain of the school’s
soccer team. Later he gained the roll of president of
the W.C.C.
Art Club along with membership of the student senate. Torres
received
awards for his leadership and was granted a scholarship to continue
his studies of Fine Art.
Mr. Torres received a B.F.A. From
2003. During his studies at SUNY Purchase, Torres not
only continued to
develop his painting technique, he also began to
experiment with digital and
interactive media using his knowledge
of mathematics to create unique
interactive pieces. Torres currently
experiments with Multimedia techniques
and incorporates conceptual
math theory into visual compositions and continues
to capture similar
theories in Fine Art pieces. “Golden Spiral” (2005), for
example,
is inspired by the concept of the golden ratio developed by
Pythagoras. The work is a unique bridge between math, science and
fine art.
Oscar currently lives and works in NYC.
